A message to Pauline Hanson

Every weekend, thousands of patriots pull on their singlets, and head out to reclaim Australia.

Draped in the flag, and and chanting fuck knows what, they're out to stop the Islamic invasion.

According to them, the sand niggers who call themselves Muslims (Reclaim Australia's words, not mine) are nothing more than pedophiles and suicide bombers.

Strangely, most of the anger comes from people living in white suburbia.  Places where the only Muslims are are likely to be the local doctor, or kebab shop owner.  That's hardly an invasion.  An invasion is where you arrive uninvited, and commit genocide, but I'll get onto that.

Ms Hanson, these people idolise you.  People can analyse the behaviour of angry white people all they like, whether they're from Bendigo or Alabama, the fact is this; they have growing political clout.

And many other political leaders agree with all the anti-Islam rhetoric.

Where am I going with this?

Well first, I'm happy to admit I'm not a fan of Islam.  Nor Christianity for that matter.  I'm adult enough (and hopefully wise enough) to understand that believing in fairies is something that should pass in early childhood.

I'm also pragmatic enough to understand that billions of people don't share my view, and some of them like to honour their own particular brand of mythical sky creature by Wearing the Clothes that He Ordered.

All power to them, I reckon.  It doesn't bother me one little bit.

And second, I don't really think Australians should be criticising other cultures.

So my message to Pauline Hanson is this:  Read John 8:7 (or if that's too hard, get somebody to read it to you).

Then get in your taxpayer-funded jet, and visit somewhere like, let's say, Tennant Creek.

I've picked Tennant Creek because the population is roughly half Australian, half illegal immigrants.

The illegals are people like you and I, Pauline.  Whites, mainly from the British Isles, who came here uninvited and set about raping, murdering and stealing land from the real Australians.

You might think given that history, elected leaders like yourself might prioritise putting things right between us, the illegals, and the real Australians.

That isn't happening.

Instead, you're playing politics; concentrating on picking up votes from disenfranchised white people, and ignoring the real race problem in this country.  And the problem isn't Muslims, it's us.

We ignore the real Australians, who suffer far higher levels of infant mortality, live in comparative poverty and die twenty years younger than us.  Some people blame alcohol, drugs, even idleness.  Yet the problem is none of these; it's us.

There's still time to fix this, Pauline.

Show some leadership.

Quit the Islamic paranoia, and spend some time talking to the real Australians.  Or isn't there a headline in that?

Because personally, the Australian way of life you claim to be protecting is one I'm deeply ashamed of.

(Tomorrow, I'll return to proper travel writing, and talk about Tennant Creek.  I promise).
